About Me
My name is Karen Blom, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Iowa State University in 1991. Shortly after graduation, my husband and I relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where I began applying my design skills in the real estate marketing field. I created flyers, advertisements, subdivision logos, brochures, and also produced the Parade of Homes magazine for the Wake Forest community.
In 1994, I transitioned to freelance work from home as we started our family. Once our two daughters were school-aged, I accepted a new opportunity as the Marketing and Communications Director for the private school they attended. That role evolved into a 25-year career, where I developed all branding and communications for the school and expanded my skills in graphic design. During that time, I also had the privilege of supporting several other educational institutions with their branding and marketing efforts.
In 2014, we moved to Charlotte, North Carolina due to my husband’s job transfer. I continued working remotely for the school, while also taking on additional freelance clients. During this period, I expanded my skill set to include web design and ventured into broader areas of branding and marketing.
In 2017, with our daughters grown and out on their own, we adopted our cat, Ellie. She has become a constant (and often mischievous) presence at my side during work—sometimes helping, occasionally playing, and every now and then, creating accidental keyboard shortcuts. She’s truly a beloved part of my creative process.
Since returning to Raleigh in 2023, I’ve continued to pursue my passion for design—helping businesses present themselves professionally and effectively. I’d love the opportunity to partner with you on your design or marketing projects!
